I read several disturbing things this morning:

Defense Secretary Hegseth has told the press that it is not to print anything that is not authorized by the Pentagon. Whether the information is classified or not makes no difference. What is happening to freedom of speech and freedom of the press?

The Department of Education has told nine universities that they must comply with MAGA objectives if they are to continue to receive federal funding. Loss of tax-exempt status is also a possibility. On the other hand, if they comply with the request, then substantial benefits could result.

Some of the MAGA objectives include protesting or speaking against MAGA and conservative ideologies especially to the extent that such expression of opinion may generate anger toward MAGA/conservative individuals (generating anger toward liberals doesn’t matter), failure to recognize that there are only two genders, and more. The University of Texas is one of the universities being threatened. Again, what is happening to freedom of speech if there is punishment for speaking against the political party in power?
